Abrupt Weaning:
Is when a parent has decided to end the nursing relationship suddenly. This is very rarely necessary including for medications and medical issues and may have repercussions such as plugged ducts, mastitis and abscesses. Sudden weaning should be done under the care of an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to keep the parent safe from any issues that may arise and to support the family with a feeding plan for after weaning has happened.

Across the Chest Hold:
Also known as “cross cradle hold” and looks like this: Cross Cradle Breastfeeding hold. Families may find this latching technique helpful in getting a deeper latch, latching a premature or younger baby or when the dyad is learning to nurse. It is important to remember that this is not a nursing position but rather a latching technique and that once baby is latched the parent should switch to the cradle position/ laid back position for a more sustainable nursing journey.
Adipose tissue (body fat):
“In humans, adipose tissue is located: beneath the skin (subcutaneous fat), around internal organs (visceral fat), in bone marrow (yellow bone marrow), intermuscular (Muscular system) and in the breast tissue.” – Wikipedia.

Alfalfa:
Alfalfa is a plant that is said to have a galactagogue effect (increase milk supply) for some families, there are only a few studies that look at the effects of foods that help increase a parent’s milk supply and while most studies say that they are a small amount of help to none at all, there is a long history of families using foods to help during the postpartum period and beyond with breastfeeding.

Allergies:
Allergies, also known as allergic diseases, are a number of conditions caused by hypersensitivity of the immune system to typically harmless substances in the environment. These diseases include hay fever, food allergies, atopic dermatitis, allergic asthma, and anaphylaxis. Symptoms may include red eyes, an itchy rash, sneezing, a runny nose, shortness of breath, or swelling. While it is not possible for a baby to be allergic to human milk it is possible for them to have a reaction to something that is in the parents diet.
